Core catchers

A core catcher belongs to NPP passive safety systems.It is designed for confinement of the reactor molten core and prevention of melt release outside the containment.

The core catcher consists of a bottom slab, a cantilever truss, a maintenance platform, and a vessel with supports.Inside, the core catcher contains a filler that is a sacrificial material of metal oxides and concrete.
